Alta Blanca (ID0628)
An Idaho release.

Idaho 377s
Developed by Idaho AES, USDA-ARS and released in 1994. This variety has been among the highest yielding spring wheat tested over the past 3 years. It was grown on a contract basis in 1996. Idaho 377s has been licensed to ProMar Select of Idaho for distribution. It is slightly taller than many spring varieties and has somewhat weaker straw. Test weight is similar to Pondera but protein content is less. Idaho 377s has excellent resistance to stripe rust and moderate resistance to leaf rust. Susceptible to Hessian fly. Idaho 377s is primarily intended for export markets and domestic markets that require an intermediate level of protein. It is widely adapted throughout Idaho.

Lochsa (ID0597)
An Idaho release from Ed Souza (Aberdeen) with excellent breadmaking quality for a hard white.  Lochsa has  been evaluated in western Idaho in 2004 and 2005.  It is comparable in yield to Otis, ID377s, and higher yielding than Klasic.

Klasic
An older Northrup King release. Excellent bread making quality (loaf volume).  High levels of polyphenol oxidse activity in the grain which gives poorer noodle color and stability.  Yields comparable to Lolo and ID0377s.

Kulm
Excellent 97 loaf volume.

Lolo (IDO533)
Idaho replacement for 377s.   Higher gluten strength for better bread making than ID0377s so has better dual purpose quality (noodles and bread). Higher test weight and somewhat  better yielding in western Idaho than ID0377s.  Very similar height and lodging resistance to ID0377s.

Macon  (WA7899)
WSU 2002 release.  Potential dual purpose for bread making and noodle.  Better bread flour than 377s and good noodle color.   Best adapted to intermediate to high rainfall agronomic zones.   Lower yielding than 377S.

Otis (WA7931)
A 2004 WSU release for the intermediate rainfall area.  It has yielded as well as or better than ID377s when irrigated in  western Idaho testing.  Otis is taller than ID377s and Winsome but has excellent straw strength.  Otis is a dual purpose hard white capable of being used for both breadmaking and noodles.  It has better breadmaking quality than 377s 

WB Pristine
Released by Western Plant Breeders in 1999.  Yields have been slightly less than Idaho 377s under both irrigated and dryland conditions.  Test weight is similar to Idaho 377s, height is shorter, and date headed is earlier.  Straw strength is better than Idaho 377s. 

WB Snow Crest (BZ998-247W)
A Westbred release in 2004.  As of 2005 there was no testing of this line in western Idaho. 

Winsome 
Released by Oregon AES, USDA-ARS in 1999.  Winsome has similar yield to Pristine.   Test weight is below average, height is shorter, and date head is later than most other comparable varieties. 
Slightly shorter than Idaho 377s and straw strength is similar to Idaho 377s.   Grain is harder than Idaho 377s but is lower in protein although it has similar end-use properties.  It. must be grown from certified seed and growers names kept on record until June 30, 2002.


WA7900
WSU advanced line.  Potential dual purpose for bread baking and noodles.  Only moderately resistant to stripe rust.

WA7901
WSU advanced line.  Lacks bread baking quality.
