The Extension Cereals program for
southwestern Idaho is based at the University of Idaho, Parma Research and
Extension Center. The purpose of the program is to support Idahos
agriculturally based communities by evaluating, developing, and providing
needed information to producers for the economic production and marketing of
wheat, barley, oats, and triticale. The program also informs related
agribusiness and public agency personnel so that they can best serve the
needs of area small grain producers. The program focus is on cereal
cultivar performance, and other agronomic topics pertinent to the areas
irrigated and dryland producers. The Cereal Sentinel
newsletter is the primary vehicle for information delivery to producers and
related industry or public personnel.
Brad Brown (bradb@uidaho.edu) is the project leader with a number of seasonal workers providing technical and logistical support. The educational and research program is supported with funds from federal and state sources which are supplemented by grants provided by the Idaho Wheat Commission, Idaho Barley Commission, and private interests.
