Homeowner Information> The information and resources found on the University of Idaho Extension’s Idaho Landscapes and Gardens web site are designed specifically for Idaho. Provided are tips that will help gardeners plan and create a healthy, garden, landscape or lawn. Experts at the University of Idaho provide information on raising fruits and vegetable, and caring for trees, shrubs, groundcover, vines and lawns. There are links to the University of Idaho Master Gardener Website contact page, where you can select your county and obtain contact information for your extension professional. You can also access contact information for the horticulture business professionals in your area. http://www.extension.uidaho.edu/idahogardens/ Washington State University Cooperative Extension’s Hortsense website advises home gardeners on the management of plant problems, including information on cultural problems (e.g., frost damage and sun scald), and problems caused by insects, mites, diseases, weeds and herbicide injury. Identifying photographs are provided to allow the homeowner to properly identify the offending pest or cultural issue. There home gardener fact sheets for managing plant problems with Integrated Pest Management (IPM), which includes cultural controls and Washington-registered pesticides. Washington State University Cooperative Extension’s Pestsense website provides a collection of fact sheets that outline Integrated Pest Managment (IPM) strategies for managing common indoor pests, such as food and fabric pests, nuisance pests, stinging and biting pests, and wood-destroying pests. The fact sheets provide pest biology, identifying photographs, and management options. The management options include cultural, mechanical, biological, and chemical methods. There are some pesticides listed in the fact sheets that are examples of products that are legal for use in Washington. The University of California's Statewide Integrated Pest Management Program’s How to manage Pests in Homes, Gardens, Landscapes, and Turf web site provides the user with the University’s official guidelines for pest monitoring techniques, pesticides registered in California, and non-pesticide alternatives for managing pests inside and outside of the home. Photos identifying pests (insects, diseases and weeds) and beneficial insects are provided.
