We came here because we saw what work the university had been doing. They've been well immersed in biodiesel and biofuels research for some considerable time and here with the university, the research they've done, headed by Jack Brown is the best team you could possibly have to develop product for the future.
Narrator
The University of Idaho 's commitment to biodiesel began almost 40 years ago. The program is currently headed by Professor Jack Brown.

Developing Designer Bioenergy Crops, University of Idaho
The very first and #1 goal of our project and our breeding program is to develop agronomically adapted cultivars that have the correct genetic make up to resist pests and diseases that prevail throughout the world and to resist the adverse climatic conditions of high temperatures, perhaps more drought tolerant. The germplasm that we have in our collection here at Idaho has come from virtually every area of the world where vegetable brassica oil crops have been growing. We have germplasm from Soviet Union , from Europe , from South America , a vast collection from China itself. This germplasm varies for a whole range of characteristics and it's the manipulation of that germplasm to identify specific gene combinations which give our breeding program advantage over some others in the world at this moment in time.
Narrator
The University of Idaho is committed to high quality biodiesel. Not only with superior crop yields, but biodiesel that performs in a wide range of conditions with very low emissions providing benefits now and for future generations.

I mean you don't have to look and pick up the papers today and read about how the world's woken up to carbon emissions and to the problems in the world with CO2 and its evident that unless we do something now for alternative fuels for our children and children's children, for future generations there won't be fossil fuels left.
Narrator
Immediate international action is needed to replace fossil fuels with clean energy industries like biodiesel. |
