Knowing the enemy

Northwest farmers and others who need to identify crop pests now can do it by the book, online, or using a new CD from the University of Idaho. Identification keys for pests in 14 field crops (alfalfa hay and seed, beans, canola, wheat, barley, oats, rye, corn, mint, peas, lentils, potatoes, and sugarbeets) lead readers step by step to the identity, description, and full color photograph of their pest. No previous experience with insect identification is necessary.

A printed UI publication in its original form (MS 109), the keys also are available on the Internet at http://www.cals.uidaho.edu/edComm/keys/ in a new format specifically developed for online use. A CD version (CD1) gives users quick access to the keys without going online.

Orders for MS 109 or CD 1 can be placed with Agricultural Publications, University of Idaho, P.O. Box 442240, Moscow, ID 83844-2240; phone (208) 885-7982; email cking@uidaho.edu.
