(1988) Effects of a diet composition on food intake and carcass
conposition in rats Physiology and Behavior, 42:551-556.
Rats (n=48)
were fed a high fat diet for 16 weeks to induce obesity, then
were fed a control diet to normalize weight. Then the rats were
fed a high protein, high fat, or a chow diet. The high protein
diet resulted in maintenance of normal body weight by reducing
feed efficiency , the chow diet resulted in higher body fat, compared
to controls, and the high fat diet stimulated weight gain. Therefore,
a high protein diet has a higher probability of enhancing weight
loss maintenance in a weight-reduced obese than a usual well-balanced
diet
