The Cell Separation and Flow Cytometry Facility provides instrumentation and expertise for cell analysis and sorting using FACS (Fluorescence Activated Cell Sorter) technology. Our Becton Dickinson FACSCalibur and FACSAria flow cytometers, in conjunction with BD CellQuest analysis software, allows distinction of complex interactions such as cell activation, proliferation, differentiation, maturation and apoptosis within heterogeneous cell populations.
Additionally, cells or tissue may be isolated for further analysis by PCR, using our Zeiss Laser Microdissection (PALM) system. By using the PALM Microdissection system, researchers have the opportunity to reliably isolate cells and subcellular structures from a mixed cell population or tissue.
Equipment:
FACSAria provides multicolor analysis of up to 9 parameters, sorting devices for a variety of tube sizes and acquisition rates of 70,000-100,000 events per second. For more detailed information go to http://www.bdbiosciences.com/
pdfs/brochures/SJ-0003-00.pdf.
FACSCalibur provides multicolor analysis of up to 5 parameters and a maximum acquisition rate of 300 cells/sec using 50 ml conical tubes. For more detailed information go to http://www.bdbiosciences.com/
pdfs/brochures/23-3090-03.pdf.
Zeiss PALM Microdissection system uses an inverted Zeiss Axiovert microscope and a laser used to cut away cells and tissue from neighboring cells and capture the isolated cells into tubes for further processing. For more detailed information on this system go to http://www.palmmicrolaser.com/
