How to use this map
This map shows the strength of reactions to virus antibodies using ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) for BLRV and PEMV virus proteins. Tissue from 30 plants taken from three 100-m transects in each field was pooled for the reaction. The data are plotted as circles with radius proportional to the strength of the reaction: strong reactions are equal or greater than observed with known positive controls (infected plants); weak reactions are intermediate between negative and positive controls; no reaction (no circle, just the yellow can symbol) indicates the signal was equivalent to a signal from known virus-free plants. A separate reaction was done for each virus (PEMV and BLRV) and the data are plotted using different colored symbols. The samples were taken from pea or lentil fields depending upon site.
