Planting Dates
Planting dates have large affects on small grain performance. Earlier plantings promote more tillering and increase the number of heads per unit area, one of the primary components of yield. Earlier plantings also allow grain heads to fill under more optimum temperature conditions that also promote higher yields and test weight. A variety of studies have been conducted to examine planting date effects on small grains in the Treasure Valley. Some of the reports from these studies are available below for your viewing.
